Oooooo (sing together and you will make a perfect circle) Oooooo (sing together and you will make a perfect circle) reveals the connection between harmony, mathematics, and the human body. It consists of a CRT TV and two microphones. The title of the work invites pairs of people to sing into the microphones. The signals are directly mapped onto the TV screen, with one mic plotted on the X axis and the other on the Y axis. As a result, the relationship between voices is made visible. If singing identical notes, the shape will approximate a circle. If singing in harmony, the sound will create "Lissajous curves", mathematical structures explored by Jules Antoine Lissajous. Regardless of musical talent, participants experiment in creating sounds and shapes that bring them closer together. About Kat Hartog Kat Hartog is a new media artist based in Toronto. Her work considers the fundamental nature of the universe: matter, energy, space, time, etc. in relation to our experience as human beings. Her work explores abstract modes of connection, and the interplay between what is ephemeral and what is eternal. Her work is primarily interactive, using technology as a tool to create grounded experiences that obscure the separation of physical and digital.
