Featuring Molecular Incantations // Sympathetic Telepathy (MIST) by erψn temp3st, pakone-kisik by Tyson Houseman and the Snare Drum Project by Mikolaj Rytowski.

Together, these works highlight the diversity of technological approaches in contemporary performance, from analog and digital feedback loops to live cinema and spatialized sound, offering audiences a chance to witness how media art continues to evolve, transform, and surprise.

Molecular Incantations//Sympathetic Telepathy by erψn temp3st

Molecular Incantations//Sympathetic Telepathy (MIST) is a solo interdisciplinary performance that explores the materialities of bodies and space through vibration, resonance, and feedback. Through dance, sound, and object interaction MIST parses questions of posthuman and queer materiality, proposing a body enmeshed in the matter and reverberations of a vibrant world.

MIST takes cues from embodied practices in contemporary dance and somatic techniques as well as noise music and experimental sound art. It explores audio amplification of physical movement as a way to open new pathways of listening and attention in both the performer and the audience. I use analog audio gear affixed to the my body to amplify the sounds of shaking, intone singing, a beating heart, and the thunderous drone of a finger vibrator pressed into the ribcage. I work with feedback loops created between contact microphones and mini-amplifier speakers and use wearable plastic vessels to induce and modulate specific feedback tones. By using mini-amps in tandem with a microphone hooked into a larger PA system I can play between localized sound sources and immersive surround sound. The piece unfolds through a gradual layering of sound using a looper pedal and effects pedals. Equal attention is given to the sonic as to the choreographic, facilitating an uncanny modulation between dance performance and noise concert.

pakone-kisik by Tyson Houseman

pakone-kisik is a nêhiyaw word referring to the Pleiades star cluster, which can be translated from nêhiyawewin as “hole-in-the-sky.” In nêhiyaw cosmology, pakone-kisik is a portal or doorway between our universe and the place that humans came from.

This live video performance uses video feedback techniques in order to depict nêhiyaw star constellations and star maps, along with audio recordings of stories associated with each star map and an ambient electronic soundscape that the artist also creates live in the space. This performance will feature galaxy and supernova imagery created live using macro video feeds of liquid and ink manipulations, along with video feeds of cymatic water vibrations that respond to the soundscapes that are also being created live in the space using synthesizers and contact mics. The cymatic water elements and liquid ink manipulations would be further expanded and layered by the infinite looping of the live video feedback loop technique, which will culminate in the creation of analog cosmic portal visuals, offering a depiction of “pakone-kisik”.

the snare drum project by Mikołaj Rytowski

the snare drum project is a multi-sensory instrument and performance that reimagines the role of percussion. The work features an ensemble of twenty prepared snare drums dispersed throughout the space, functioning as both a spatial sound installation and a live performance platform. Rooted in my personal history — the snare drum being my first instrument — the project reflects my evolving relationship with percussion. It merges music, light, and physical space to create a fluid, immersive experience. By expanding the sonic and expressive potential of the snare drum, the project invites audiences into a world where percussion is not only heard but deeply felt.
