About the Artwork

Title: Meta-Reality Distortion For Sonic Impression
Medium: Short Performance Within Installation
Size: Aprox. 20 x 20

This work uses the natural latency of electronic equipment for time-disruption, seeking to activate feelings of temporal delusion. This work asks what the role of a performer is, what (who) defines who (what) a performer is, and if a performer needs to or needs not "exist" in a performance. This work encourages outward respect towards some forms of gear, instrumentation, structured apparatus, and technical equipment or machinery needed for a particular activity or purpose. Through the exploration of respectful support for the variety of items involved in the work, an opportunity to consider the treatment of currently or previously existing collections of components, circuits, systems or cells, is presented.

About The Artist

Jairus Sharif is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, improviser, and producer. His work combines free improvisation, sound collage and live looping to create a liberation technology used for healing, self-understanding, and freedom of expression.

Sharif has generated a stream of recordings that forge connections between free jazz, mysticism, the blues, and hip-hop. Live performances offer a glimpse into an ongoing hermetic journey via contradictory statements that dwell beneath a blustery surface.
