Throughout the Black2theFuture residency, she produced two different visual interpretations of BEYOND REPAIR with the idea of striving for a better relationship to self in mind.About The ArtistAdo Nkemka/A.N. is a musician and multidisciplinary writer (theatre, poetry, journalism) based in Calgary, AB. Her writing credits include the CBC, artsUnite, Best Health, and Mount Royal University. As a musician (and writer), her work serves to channel her visceral responses to personal experiences through art. A.N. made her festival debut at Sled Island in 2022. That same year, she received Calgary Arts Development funding to work on the recently released album “I’m Not Afraid to Die Anymore,” co-produced with James Bunton. She was a part of the 2023-2024 TD Incubator program offered by Arts Commons (AC). Off the heels of an electrifying cabaret performance at AC in February 2024, A.N. opened for Vivek Shraya at FoundFest 2024 in Cochrane, AB. In August 2024, she completed MacEwan University’s TD Artist in Residence program, culminating in a performance that left the audience saying “Holy sh*t.”A.N. began the waterfall release of her album “I’m Not Afraid to Die Anymore” November 10th 2023 with her song BRAIN ON. In 2024, she followed this first single with IMPOSTER SYNDROME (March 8th), I WAS NEVER IN LOVE WITH YOU (April 19th) earning her radio airplay on CBC and CKUA. She released the accompanying lyric video which she executive produced (with animator Amanda Torres handling animation) July 19th, 2024. After months of releases, the final song off the album I’M NOT AFRAID TO DIE ANYMORE was released November 8th 2024. As a Black2theFuture resident A.N. is currently working on two music videos in support of her song BEYOND REPAIR (Single released August 23rd).
