The EMMEDIA Board of Directors is delighted to announce that Sharon Kahanoff has stepped into the role of Artistic Director at the centre.

Sharon is a media arts professional with many years of experience leading arts organizations, producing, teaching, and with her own vibrant practice. We are very grateful that she will be bringing that experience to bear at EMMEDIA to help us grow. "I'm really excited to be joining the EMMEDIA team, to program alongside Janira Moncayo, to plan with Joe Kelly how to support artists even better, and especially to work with the community of Media Artists in Calgary. I'm going to do lots of studio visits as soon as I can to get to know this community, and I hope they reach out when they are excited about something they've made!"

Sharon Kahanoff is a producer, media artist, writer and educator. Sharon has been producing and managing the productions of other artist’s films and artworks since 2004. These works have shown all over the world including the Venice Biennale, the International Film Festival Oberhausen, and exhibitions in New York, Berlin, Belgium and Seoul. Her own artworks have been exhibited in cinemas and galleries in Canada, the United States, Finland and the United Kingdom, and she has been published in books, exhibition catalogues, magazines and other art publications.

For fifteen years Sharon was a Lecturer at Simon Fraser and Emily Carr Universities, teaching in both film and visual arts, and she sat on the Boards of Artspeak Gallery and Cineworks. Since moving to Calgary in 2016, Sharon has been a production manager for Beakerhead, and co-Director of Mountain Standard Time, where she produced their 9th biennial of performative arts.
