EMMEDIA WORKSHOPS

Our workshops equip artists and the arts-inclined public with educational tools to aid in the creation of incredible media artworks! Workshop offerings focus on introductory and intermediate digital video, audio, multimedia, and electronics techniques. Classes are designed to be friendly and accessible to emerging and established artists, as well as members of the public without an existing artistic practice. Within EMMEDIA’s creative environment, participants develop the technical and aesthetic experience necessary to operate as an independent creator of conceptually compelling, and technically impressive media art.

EMMEDIA workshops are divided into three academic terms annually. This trimester includes spring (February through April), summer (May through August), and fall (September through December) workshop series. Each term includes between seven and ten workshops that largely take place on weekend mornings/afternoons.

Unless otherwise indicated, workshops take place at EMMEDIA’s Screening Room (203-351 11 Ave. SW) and include up to ten registered participants. Drop-in registration is NOT permitted, and all workshop participants are required to sign up for classes prior to the class date.

INSTRUCTORS

Our pool of skilled facilitators and instructors come from a variety of artistic disciplines, and share an eager drive to educate those who wish to learn new skills, or refine existing ones. Instructors are selected based on their expertise in specific aspects of audio, video, electronics, and media art creation. These include mid-career and senior artists, as well as sessional instructors at local post-secondary institutions. Workshops are coordinated by staff solicitation, or by proposals sent to EMMEDIA. Instructors are required to submit a CV and samples of their work prior to consideration by EMMEDIA’s Production Committee and staff.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND CANCELLATION POLICY

Workshop fees are payable by credit card, cash, cheque, or Paypal at the time of registration. If registration is done by phone or email, the participant must drop off payment at least 7 days in advance of the workshop. A $30 admin fee will be added to any workshop fees payed on the first day of the workshop. Cancellations may be made 48 hours in advance at no charge. Any cancellation made with less than 48 hours notice will be charged at the full rate.
