Join us for a free screening of Text(e)/Image/Beat, a program of videopoetry curated by Daniel H. Dugas and Valerie LeBlanc, as part of Wordfest 2015. The program was originally commissioned by the Galerie Sans Nom, Moncton, NB for the Northrop Frye Literary Festival, March 20th to May 1st, 2015.

We’ll be activating Central Memorial Park once again with projections and media art installations! With the rise of popularity in accessible micro computer systems like Raspberry Pis or micro controllers like Arduinos, artists now have an inexpensive and flexible tool to create mini programmable systems that react with sensors and controllers. This free outdoor event will showcase nine local artists working with interactive electronics, so come out to play at PULSE during Alberta Culture Days!

Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF) and EMMEDIA Gallery and Production Society are excited to celebrate the launch of our new joint publication, Luma. Merging the missions of CSIF’s Answer Print and EMMEDIA’s Handheld, Luma is a quarterly online publication that aims to expand critical dialogue about film and media art through essays, news, reviews, interviews, reflections, and photo/video essays. Luma will continue to move forward as a voice for Western Canadian filmmakers and artists, providing a much needed platform for discourse. From the rise of mashups to the explosion of media sampling and remix culture in the digital age, issues related to copyright, creative commons and ownership continue to evolve and respond to the realities of circulation, appropriation and privatization. Featuring musicians, visual and new media artists who explore sampling and appropriation in their practices, this panel will illustrate and interrogate the participatory networks that both enable sharing and encourage taking.
