Low-tech? How about no-tech? In a world of never-ending updates and rapid-fire technological innovation (not to mention rabid consumer culture), it’s hard not to get stressed out trying to maintain the ‘New’ in your New Media art practice. In this presentation, multidisciplinary artist Alexis O’Hara will discuss strategies to subvert and pervert prevailing trends in New Media Arts.

Alexis O’Hara lives and works in Montreal. Her practice exploits an intermingling of vocal exploration, live electronic improvisation, cabaret, and video-sound installation. Her eclectic performances have been presented in different contexts, from new music symposiums, spoken word and live art festivals, to ” women & technology” events in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, the UK, Mexico, and across Canada and the US. In 2009, she accepted the challenge proposed by artist Dayna McLeod and is producing one video a week (www.52pickupvideos.com).
